Rita Chasen Obituary

Rita (Klatsky) Chasen, age 99, died on Monday, Oct. 22nd in The Jewish Home in San Francisco.

Her husband, Irving Chasen, died in 1970. She leaves a son, Richard Chasen of San Francisco; a daughter, Ruth wife of Paul Whinnem of Newington, CT; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her daughter, Judith Chasen, her son Abbee Chasen; her brother, Kasper "Sonny" Klatsky; and by her sisters: Mae Mishkin and Dora Goldman.

She was born in Lynn, MA, a daughter of Hyman and Leah (Winer) Klatsky and had lived in Worcester for over 60 years before living for 6 years in Newington, CT and for the past two years in San Francisco.

She was a private duty registered nurse for many years and was a nurse at the Jewish Healthcare Center for several years, before she retired in 1973.

During World War II, she was a past president of B'Nai Brith Women. She had been a long time member of Beth Israel Synagogue and had been a very active braille transcribing volunteer for the Braille Institute as well as a very active volunteer at the Jewish Healthcare Center. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Jewish War Veterans.

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on SUNDAY, OCTOBER 28TH in Perlman Funeral Home, 1026 Main St. Burial will be in B'Nai Brith Cemetery.

Memorial Observance for Sunday, Oct. 28th will be announced at the time of the funeral service.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Jewish Healthcare Center, 629 Salisbury St., Worcester 01609 or to The Jewish Home, 320 Silver St., San Francisco, 94112.
