James Grotton Obituary

James Frederick Grotton, Jr., 61, of Sanbornton, N.H. died on Sunday, October 28, 2007, at home surrounded by his family.

James was born on January 11, 1946 in Gardiner, Maine, the son of Fred and Rita (Hopkins) Grotton. He was happily married to Diane (Prescott) Grotton for forty-three years. He was part owner of the Pipeline Company, Everett J. Prescott in Concord, N.H. for thirty years. He left the business in 1995 to travel the country with his wife following the NASCAR racing success of his son-in-law. In 1999, he purchased land on the shores of Lake Winnisquam and built their dream house. Jim enjoyed working, golfing, watching the Red Sox and Patriots, and his family.

In addition to his wife, James is survived by their three children, Carman Alenson, Erik Grotton and Cathleen Craven and nine grandchildren. The death of his oldest grandson, James F. Alenson, in January brought him much sadness. James is also survived by his mother, three brothers, a sister and several nephews and nieces.

Diane,
Our prayers are with you and your family. Although I only knew Jim for a short time I will miss his humor, courage and determination. I am thankful that I had the opportunity to meet both of you. Please know that Cindy and I are here for you and don't hesitate to call if you need us. I have a work engagement in Vermont Thursday night and all day Friday which will prevent me from being there. But my thoughts will be with you and your family. God Bless you all.

October 30, 2007

Dear Diane and family: Les and I are so saddened by Jimmy's passing. Of course my memories of Jimmy go back to "the farm" and lazy Sundays playing ball with all my cousins. The relationship Les and I shared with you, Diane, and Jimmy over the past few years was one we will cherish forever. I'll never forget Texas and the tornado coming through just before racetime or half-hour meetings with you both as you came through Carlisle or we traveled through New Hampshire. If it were in my power to take all the sadness of this year from you, I would do it in a heartbeat. Know that you are truly loved and that we are here for you anytime you need us. Love, Linda (Grotton) MacRae
