Ruth Negus Obituary

Ruth (Hubbard) Negus, 75, of Marstons Mills, MA passed away peacefully at her home on November 11, 2007 ending another courageous battle with a debilitating illness.

Ruth was born in Hyannis to Mildred (Dickey) and Fred A. Hubbard and was the sister to the late Fred A. Hubbard Jr. Ruth was a graduate of Fairhaven High School and Framingham State Teachers College.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Stanley P. Negus Jr. of Marstons Mills, MA and by her children, David W. Negus and his wife Miriam currently based in the Phillippines, Carol N. Smith and her husband Bruce of Brookline, NH, and James A. Negus and his wife Susan of Maynardville, TN. In addition she leaves seven grandchildren (Tim, Brian, William, James, Charmane, Damie and Jasmine), one great granddaughter (Elise) as well as many nieces and nephews.

After marrying Stan she taught school for a brief period. In 1954 she joined Stan in El Paso, TX while he completed his US Army commitment. After returning to New England in 1956, Ruth and Stan raised their family in Auburn, MA and then moved to Cape Cod in 1986.

Calling hours will be from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Monday Nov. 19th at Doane Beal & Ames, 160 West Main St., Hyannis, MA. A service to celebrate Ruth's life will be held at 1:00 PM on Tues. Nov. 20th at The Unitarian Church of Barnstable (at the northeast corner of Route 6A and Phinney's Lane). A gathering in the church hall will follow. The interment services to be held at the Mosswood Cemetery in Cotuit will be private. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the P.E.O Chapter AL, c/o 21 Hunters Brook Rd., Sagamore Beach, MA 02562 or to Hospice and Palliative Care of Cape Cod, 765 Attucks Lane, Hyannis, MA 02601.
