Doris Schimke Obituary

She was born in Worcester, Mass., June 1, 1934, the daughter of Carl L. and Judith E. (Potts) Soderman. She grew up in the Quinsigamond Village section of Worcester, graduating from Girls Trade High School. She lived in Worcester for many years, later moving to Fitzwilliam, NH where she lived for several years and since 2001 has resided in Athol.

She worked at the Norton Company in Worcester for many years and was a seamstress at Surrell's Company in Troy, NH. She was a member of the Franco American Naturalization Club, the American Lithuanian Naturalization Club, was a former member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Worcester. She enjoyed playing the accordion and doing seamstress work.

Her first husband of 20 years, Erick R. Sax died in 1975 and her second husband of 15 years, Fred Schimke died in 1988. She leaves a son, Alan Sax and his wife Denise of Charlton; and a daughter, Katharine A. Sax and her friend Paul Vescovi, Sr. of Athol; her companion, Al Dugan of Winchendon; a sister, June Bartelson and her husband Earl of Sutton; a nephew, Jon Bartelson and a niece Sarah Bartelson.

Graveside services will be held Thursday, November 29, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery in Clinton, MA with the Rev. David Warren officiating. There are no calling hours and in lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, 10 Brookline Place West-6th floor, Brookline, MA 02445-7726.
