Bernadette Campanale Obituary

Bernadette M. (Seremet) Campanale, 80, of Shrewsbury, died Tuesday, November 27th with her family by her side in UMass Memorial Medical Center-Memorial Campus after an illness.

Her husband, Vincent J. Campanale, died in 1967. She is survived by a son, Steven J. Campanale and his wife, Elizabeth of Paxton; two daughters: Jane B. Campanale of Shrewsbury and Frances E. Campanale of Woodstock, CT; a granddaughter, Athena Sweeney; a brother, Walter Seremet of Southbridge, MA; also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by 4 brothers.

Mrs. Campanale was born and raised in Southbridge, daughter of the late John and Sophie (Kadzielauva) Seremet. She graduated from Mary Wells High School in 1944 and Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Services in Boston in 1951 where she was a member of the Lambda Kappa Sigma Sorority. Bernadette was always a woman ahead of the times, this shows as she was one of the first women pharmacists in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Bernadette married the love of her life, Vincent J. Campanale in 1955 and they started their family together. She choose to stay at home and raise her family until the death of her husband when she reestablished her career to support her young family independently. Bernadette was known and loved as one of the local pharmacists at Hale Drug in Shrewsbury Center where she worked for 14 years before she retired. She was a member of Saint Anne's Parish in Shrewsbury.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Bernadette's family on Sunday, December 2nd from 2-5 P.M. in the Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main Street, Shrewsbury. Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, December 3rd at 10 A.M. in Saint Anne's Church, 130 Boston Turnpike, Shrewsbury. She will be laid to rest next to her husband, Vincent, in Saint John's Cemetery, Worcester. For directions and Bernadette's personal guestbook, please visit,

Dear Jane, Fran and Steve,
Your Mom was an inspiration to many and a true lady. We all enjoyed sharing her stories and family times when she worked with us at Hale Drug. I will never forget the kindness and love that she showed to all of us and to the people she serviced.
Our hearts are with you all-
