John Powers Obituary

John C. Powers, 94, life long resident and former Selectman to the Town of Bolton, died on Tuesday, November 27, 2007 in the Beaumont Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in Westborough.

He is survived by his beloved wife of sixty-eight years, Lillian (Cate) Powers; a daughter, Ellen Seaman of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; a granddaughter, Sara Wilson and her husband Jeffrey of Parksburg, PA; a great-granddaughter Kelly Landers, and grandson-in-law Paul Landers, both of Framingham. Mr. Powers is preceded in death by a granddaughter Jennifer Landers who died in 2005.

John was born in Bolton to the late Frank A. and Edith (Newton) Powers, attended local schools and was a graduate of Hudson High School. He graduated from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 1933 and began a distinguished career as a civil and structural engineer. John held employment with the former Bozenhard Construction Company in Worcester prior to O.E. Nault Architects, from where he ultimately retired. Throughout his career, Mr. Powers received numerous recognitions for his design of various Catholic churches and prominent structures including the Worcester Center Galleria. Upon retirement, John assisted countless projects as a self employed consultant in the field of structural engineering. He was formerly active in the Boy Scouts of Bolton, where he served as past Scout Master, and held membership with the Worcester Technical Engineering Society. He was a life member of the First Parish of Bolton, and served as former Chairman of their Building Committee.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 3, 2007 at 1PM in the Philbin-Comeau Funeral Home, 176 Water St., Clinton, with private burial to follow in West Cemetery, Bolton. Calling hours will be held prior to services in the funeral home from 12 until 1PM.
