Elizabeth Morrone Obituary

Elizabeth Ann (Erickson) Morrone, 72, of Mansfield Center, CT, beloved wife of Joseph J. Morrone, died on Friday, November 30, 2007 at Hartford Hospital after a brief illness.

Betty was born on March 6, 1935 to the late George and Anna (Lally) Erickson of Worcester, MA. In addition to her husband she is survived by a daughter, Melissa Taintor and her husband Rob of Storrs, two sons, Joe Morrone and his wife Ellen of Tolland, Bill Morrone and his wife Jeanne of Brooklyn, nine grandchildren, Tyler, Nicholas, Kelsey, Joelle, Amber, Joey, Mitchell, Amy and Jared. She also leaves a brother, Donald Erickson and his wife Mary of Shrewsbury, MA, her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bob and Marie LeMay of Worcester, MA.

Betty's whole focus was on her husband, her children, her grandchildren and her many friends made over the years while living in Massachusetts, Vermont, Rhode Island and Connecticut. Her positive, supportive and upbeat personality defined her. She always found something nice to say to everyone in her presence, someone who could turn bad news into good news. She was, in fact, a "giver", always encouraging and helping others! Betty loved having her grandchildren around her. She baked her "special" cookies and had the children decorate them at Halloween, Christmas, Easter and Valentine's Day. As many as 16 family members would join in these family days. Around UConn she was "assistant" coach, chief cheerleader and second mom to her husband's soccer teams at UConn and her grandkid's youth teams. Each summer she would entertain her relatives and friends at her home at Misquamicut Beach as well as taking her grandkids to a variety of fun activities. Everyone loved "Nana"! Her family will receive friends at the Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St., Rte. 195, Willimantic on Tuesday from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Chapel, 46 North Eagleville Rd., Storrs, CT. 06268 with assembly at the church. Burial will follow in the Storrs Cemetery, adjacent to the church. Those who wish, may make contributions in Betty's memory to the Cardiology Department, Hartford Hospital, P. O. Box 5037, Hartford, CT 06101. Please visit www.potterfuneralhome.com for directions and online memorial guestbook.
