Joseph Starr Obituary

Joseph T. Starr, 83, a resident of West Boylston for over thirty years, died Tuesday, December 4th in UMASS Memorial Healthcare. He leaves his wife of 54 years, Genevieve F. "Gwen" (Pogorzelski) Starr; four daughters, Sandra Starr Sojka and her husband Paul of Richmond, VA, Nancy E. Chapman and her husband David of Turtle Creek, PA, Kathryn Starr Croan and her husband Daniel of Fall River and Judith A. Starr of W. Boylston. He also leaves six grandchildren, Stephen and Joseph Sojka, Christine and Daniel Chapman, Andrew and Rachel Croan; several nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by four sisters, Gladys Wiencek, Mary Estes, Bertha Keefe and Anne Smigel.

He was born in Clinton, son of Alexander and Katherine (Dombrowski) Gwiazda, graduated from Lowell High School and Worcester Polytechnic Institute. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Starr was a Chemical Engineer at Vellumoid Company for 43 years. He was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, loved sports and was an avid golfer and bowler.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, December 8th from FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 1 W. Boylston St., with a Mass at 10:30 AM in Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 111 Worcester St. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery, Worcester. Visiting hours are Friday, December 7th from 4–7 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mercy Centre, 25 W. Chester St., Worcester, MA 01605.
