Neil Grayden Obituary

Neil B. "Bunny" Grayden, 66, of 602 Woodholme Drive, Conway, SC, died Sunday in Medical University of South Carolina, Charlestown.

He leaves his wife of 46 years, Beverly A. (Auger) Grayden; 3 daughters, Lisa J. Smallwood and her husband James of North Chelmsford, Lynn S. Grayden-Labiak and her husband David of Minooka, IL, and Dianne G. May and her husband Doug of Shrewsbury; 5 grandchildren, Britney and Braxton Smallwood, Elizabeth and Victoria May, and Brianna Labiak; a brother, Roy W. Grayden of Nashua, NH; a sister, Joan Stevens of Malvern, PA; his father-in-law, Alec W. Saviano of Webster; nephews and nieces.

Born and raised in Boston, the son of William J. and Eleonora (Chabot) Grayden, he moved to Webster in the early 1950's. He graduated from Saint Louis High School and entered the United States Air Force, serving for 12 years. He obtained his Bachelor of Criminal Justice Degree from Northeastern University in Boston. He lived in Webster from 1972 to 2006, when he moved to South Carolina.

He was an Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War.

Mr. Grayden was a counselor for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Corrections for 28 years, retiring in 2001.

He was an active member of Saint Louis Church. He helped organize the first annual golf tournament for Saint Louis School. He enjoyed golfing, traveling and reading.

The funeral will be held Friday, December 7, from the Sitkowski & Malboeuf Funeral Home, 340 School Street, with a Mass at 10:00 AM in Saint Louis Church, 14 Lake Street. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Dudley. Calling hours are from 5:00 to 8:00 Thursday, December 6, in the funeral home. Donations in his name may be made to Saint Louis School Endowment Fund, 15 Lake St., Webster, MA 01570.

I remember Neal when we played Little league baseball a long time ago and then when we played "Jack Benny softball together. He was always kind and a great person. He would always greet me with a big smile.
