Karen Thomas Obituary

Karen T. (Tatum) Thomas, 55, of Ladyslipper Drive in Shrewsbury, went to the Lord on Wednesday, December 5, 2007, in Umass Hospital.

She leaves her husband of thirty-three and a half years, Brian W. Thomas; a son, J.R. Thomas and his wife Tania of Grafton; her mother, Hazel (Brown) Tatum of Shrewsbury; four brothers, Tyrone Hendricks of Peekskill, New York, Jabari Tatum and Carlton Tatum both of Albany, and Keith Tatum of Worcester; two sisters, Sandra Castro and Sharon Tatum-Amissah both of Worcester; four grandchildren, Chris, Madison, Trey, and Tyson; many nieces and nephews, including a niece who is like a daughter, Tracey Miller of Palm Bay, Florida. A sister, Lois Owens, pre-deceased her.

Karen was born in Albany, New York, daughter of the late Dewey Tatum, Sr., and graduated from Kenwood Academy. She then graduated in the last graduating class of the former Newton College of The Sacred Heart, now Boston College School of Law.

Mrs. Thomas was a financial advisor with New York Life and had previously worked for twenty-eight years at Digital Equipment Company and it's successor companies. She was a member of Liberty Assembly of God Church in Shrewsbury, Mount Pleasant Country Club, and Corridor 9 Chamber of Commerce. Karen loved to cook, barbecue, travel and golf.

The funeral for Karen will be held Monday, December 10, at 10 a.m. in Liberty Assembly of God Church, 495 Hartford Turnpike, Shrewsbury, MA.

Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury. Calling hours will be held Sunday, December 9, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Liberty Assembly of God Church, 495 Hartford Turnpike, Shrewsbury, MA 01545.

So shocked and sorry to hear about Karen's premature passing away.
We worked together for many years in Shrewsbury in the Digital Equipment Materials organization and later at Quantum and Maxtor. She was a wonderful colleague and will be remembered lovingly by all of us who knew her.

Tyrone, Jabari, Carlton, Keith, Sandra and Sharon:
I truly love, honor and respect each and every one of you. Jabari and Keith we have shared and very special relationship over the years. We all grown up together and have known each other all our lives. I want you all to know I am deeply sadden by the death of our sister, Karen. Sharon, you told me she was saved and for that I thank God because our soul is most important. I share every emotion you all feel. I've walked the road before myself with Deborah and have suffered another type with the lose of my son Steven Jr. So just know I am with you all in spirit and pray daily that God's comfort surrounds each one of you. Lean not to your own understand but acknowledge God in everything and know that all your help comes from HIM.
