James Collins Obituary

James C. Collins, 59, of Worcester, died Friday, December 7, 2007 after a long illness surrounded by his family. His wife, Patricia (Sullivan) Collins, died in 1998.

He leaves his fiancée Carla L. Ryder of Lakeville; three daughters, Heather M. and her husband Thomas J. Chivallatti, Caitlin R. Collins, and Glennis A. and her husband Matthew R. Fuget; his mother, Mary R. (Foley) Collins of Worcester; a brother, John D. and his wife Laura A. Collins of Ossining, N.Y.; a sister, Jane F. Collins of Worcester; two grandsons, Steven J. and Brandon M. Chivallatti; nephews and nieces. His father, Richard J. Collins died in 1994.

Jim was born in Worcester. He attended Blessed Sacrament School and graduated in 1966 from Classical High School where he was a captain on the hockey team.

He owned and operated the J.C. Collins Roofing Co. for the past 30 years. He was a member of Christ the King Parish.

Jim was an avid golfer. He enjoyed visiting and vacationing at Misquamicut in Rhode Island. He was a former softball coach in the Jessie Burkett Little League. Most of all, he was a devoted father.

Calling hours at the Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester, are Monday, December 10 from 4 to 8 p.m. The funeral will be Tuesday, December 11 from the funeral home with a Mass at 11 a.m. in Christ the King Church, 1052 Pleasant St., Worcester. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.

Jimmy and I played hockey at Classical in '66. Though I was a sophomore, Jimmy treated me as an equal. I remember him as one of the 'good guys'. My sympathy to his family.
