Alfred Gagliardi Obituary

Alfred J Gagliardi, 90, of 47 Washington St. Lot 48 Auburn, formerly of Millbury, died in his home after a short illness.

He was the son of Leonardo Gagliardi and Grazia (DeMatteo) Gagliardi. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Frank, George, Joseph, John, Albert "Bib" and Michael as well as his 3 sisters, Antoinette "Nettie" Montaquilla, Mary Gagliardi, and Rose DeSantis. He enjoyed 23 wonderful years with his wife Lily who died in 1986. He lived in Millbury all of his life where he retired from C&S Lumber after 30 years. He is survived by his children, Paul Gagliardi and his wife Okla of Westgreen, GA, George Hilditch and his wife Lori of Douglas, MA and Beverly Malmgren (widow of Thomas) of Auburn with whom he lived. He is survived by 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

He served his country honorably as PFC in the Army Infantry 422nd K Company during WWII where he received various honors. He was captured at the Battle of the Bulge and was imprisoned at Stalag 4B POW Camp until the Liberation. He was a member of the Charles F. Minney Post VFW in Millbury.

Alfred (known as Grandpa Mike by his family) provided many years of loving memories for his family and friends. He enjoyed hosting many gatherings at his home for friends and family (including his famous 4th of July Clambakes). He enjoyed fishing, gardening and a good day at the races. He will be missed dearly by all. He was cared for at home by his family during his illness. We would like to thank VNA Care Hospice for the tender care that they provided Alfred and his family during his illness.

His funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wed., Dec. 12th in Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main St., Millbury. Burial will be in St. Brigid's Cemetery, Millbury. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11th in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to VNA Care Hospice at 120 Thomas St., Worcester, MA 01608 or to any Veterans Agency of your choice. Condolence book and directions available at
