I’ve had Mr. Gebauer on my mind, lately. Don’t know why, but I DO know that he touched many lives, mine included. Although, at the time of his passing, which was the year of my class’s graduation in 2009, I admit I wasn’t fully old and mature enough to be fully aware of his impact in my life, at almost 35 years old, I do, now.
I see him in two of my favorite tv shows, that I wouldn’t have watched in my own, if not for him showing them to us in some of the more “laidback” class days. They’re “Family Guy” and “Futurama”.
I, also, think of him every time I see a “Banana Nut” muffin, which I, and many others, used to fight to get to, figuratively, of course. Lol
Anyway, thank you for all you were, to myself and many other kids, back then and before then. Even some of us that may not have appreciated you as much as you deserved back then. We love you, Mr. Gebauer. Continue getting your rest. God bless.

Mr. G was one of the most wonderful teachers that I have ever had. I had the pleasure to go on one of his many class trips to NYC that he organized for the kids he loved so much. I was also fortunate to be involved with girls soccer and planning with him which brought a twinkle to his eye. So long ugly tie contest and monty python quotes. You will not be forgotten "doctor" (which he never let us call him).

Mr. Gebauer was my Civics teacher over 30 years ago and he is one of the reasons I became a teacher myself. Thank you Mr. Gebauer, for inspiring so many students through the years!

Farewell, Mr. Gebauer; you were probably one of the single most influential people in my life. We had our occasional issues, to be sure, but that was only to be expected from two strong-willed people with a passion for history and life. The way you helped me learn to see and study the world of both the past and the present has incalculably enriched my life. I can't imagine the person I would have been without that kind of skill. Goodbye and thank you.

Mr. Gebauer,
Words you said to me have never ever been forgotten. You once said "Ms. Laurent, you have a disarming smile!" That was 13 years ago and I have yet to forget it.
You were such a humble man though generous and loving. You made my days even after I left McK. Seeing you at the library and around town, you always remembered me.
And so, I will never ever forget you, Mr. Gebauer. You will be terribly missed!

Mr. Gebauer,
With regret, I did not have the pleasure of learning from you in the classroom, but I will always appreciate the stories you told and the muffins and cookies you sold that got me through the day. I'm glad to have known an engaging character, such as yourself. You are indeed a legend.

Mr. Rudy, you were one of the most pleasant neighbors my husband and I have ever had. We will miss chatting with you and seeing your kindly smile on a regular basis.

I don't think I will every be able to forget Mr Gebauer. He is the reason that I got my degree in sociology. I don't know how to properly express how much he will be missed. I wish I had shown him how much I appreciated the person he was and how invaluable he was to the McKinley community. Mr. Gebauer you will be greatly missed.

Mr. Gebauer you were the one who sat me down and told me the truth about the Army and in particular the job I was going to do. Your care and encouragement was one of the things that got me through the hardest test of my life. Hail and farewell, you good soul and provider of Screamin yellow zonkers.

I was fortunate to be on the faculty with Rudy at McKinley. He was a gifted teacher and a kind and generous soul. Although he will be sorely missed, it is comforting to know that his long suffering is over. May the good Lord bless him and keep him.

Mr. Gebauer, I am proud to say you were one of my greatest educational influences. You were the first teacher to force me to act like a man and not just a highschool kid. You've truly made an impact in my life and I'm a better person from it. Rest in Peace.

Mr. Gebauer was a fantastic teacher! He told stories and lectured in ways that made the past come alive. He was one of the main reasons I was a history major in college.
I have great memories of breakfast burritos (how many thousands must he have made over the years?), lunchtime movie festivals, and that horrible, but instantly recognizable, toilet seat hall pass.
He was a true character, in the best sense of the word.

You made class interesting and amusing. History seemed to be more tangible when you taught it. You always took an interest in your students, making them want to strive harder. A unique educator who I will remember. I must agree with the other post. McKinley has lost one of its finest, and you will be missed

You were without a doubt one of the best teachers at McKinley High. You always knew just how to reach out to your students. You invested so much time and energy into McKinley and were such a great support to all of your students! I especially thank you for always supporting the soccer team and for making me believe that we could succeed. Thank you for being an inspiration.

You always found a way to make World History interesting and "juicy"! I will fondly remember my time at McKinley and in your classes and the interest you took in your students' futures. Our Senior trip to NYC wouldn't have been the same without your involvement. The class of '97 will miss you!
