I awake this morning in 2021, thinking about my childhood & thought to google the name of our old neighbor, Mrs. Olmstead. I grew up in Sherburne. I lived in my gramdma Gertrude's house. Beatrice, as she let us call her, lived in a big across the street. She toured my little sisters and I around her lovely home once and showed us her doll room! She gave my baby sister a doll. We thought she was a wonderful lady. She would give us popcorn stored in a tin. She always had a kind word for us children. We were honored when she would go away and ask us to check in on her cats because we felt so grown up. My grandmother loved her & was sad to see her move. She was the perfect neighbor. May she rest in peace.

Dear Family,
Bea was a dear friend of my mother for many, many years - Ethna Crowcock. Ethna passed away on Sept 20, 2004. I remember your Mom so well -- when I was just seven, living in Franklin Square, she let me practice on her piano daily until I could get my own. She and my mom were dear, dear friends throughout their lives. I am sure you miss her terribly.

Aunt Beatty, the older sister of my father, Joseph, used to send her children's outworn, but still lovely clothes, to my family in Michigan in the 1940's. She handmade them and I remember my delight when a box from her would arrive. I especially remember a white voille dress, sprinkled with a pattern of purple flowers, that seemed very elegant to me. I felt very sophisticated when I wore it. I never met her as a child. I only knew her through her kindness in sending us those exciting boxes from a part of the world I could only dream about.
Later, when I lived in NYC in the 1960's, I remember the warmth of the home she and Uncle Fred had created -- and the liveliness of their children. I have fond memories of my few visits to their home.
More recently, through her daughter Norrie, I was able to visit Ithaca several times and re-connect with Aunt Beatty. We shared several meals and much laughter, both in her home and in a local restaurant. I treasure the photos I took of her during those times.
I expect that she, my father, Uncle Clem, and their parents, are having a grand time on the Other Side.
Much love and many blessings to them all, and to their relatives on this side of the Veil,
Kathleen

Aunt Beatty was a thoughtful, sweet and a spirited lady, and I will fondly remember her visits to New Hampshire with Mildred Jenks.
