Raymond Randolph Marsh Jr.

Raymond Marsh Obituary

RAYMOND RANDOLPH MARSH, JR.
ITHACA - Ray passed away June 30, 2008, at home after a long and courageous battle with cancer. His longtime friend Rose Kunicky was at his side.
Ray was born February 19, 1952 in Boston, MA, and was raised in West Harford, CT, where he attended the public schools. His brilliance was noted early, as was his natural gravitation toward mechanical issues and engineering. He spent a summer at Lehigh University, but was accepted into the prestigious Sibley School of Mechanical Design and Engineering at Cornell University, where he graduated with two degrees: one in Engineering, the other, an MBA. His life's work included mechanical design and he was the best at it. As a child this meant building go-carts, later building and remodeling high performance cars, and later still building his home alone from the ground up.
He was frequently chosen to travel to third world countries to repair turbines and to provide electricity in emergency situations. Randy was an avid sportsman, Captain of both his high school Ice Hockey and Lacrosse teams. He was an outstanding skier, a sport he retained a passion for until the end. He was a Boy Scout and served for many years as a scout leader in CT, and then for his own children in Ithaca, NY.
Randy is predeceased by Ray senior, a medical doctor, and his mom, Shirley May Gardner Marsh, a nurse. He leaves two sons, Ian and Eric Marsh; and four siblings, James Marsh, an orthopedic surgeon at Yale, Barry Marsh, PhD, DVM a Veterinarian in West Hartford, CT. He leaves a sister, Nancy Marsh, APRN, a nurse who teaches and practices nursing in Michigan, and Richard Marsh, PhD, a Professor of Psychology at University of Georgia. He leaves two grandchildren, multiple cousins and many friends.
It was Ray's wish that there be no service, however, it is hoped that in the near future, those of us close to Randy will come together and celebrate the life of a hardworking, brilliant individual who may best be remembered for his ethical values and practical jokes. Perkins Funeral Home assisted the family.

Randy and I have been friends since the old days on the farm in the early 70's. We had many good laughs together, he will always be remembered with a smile. See you again some day.

Randy and I go way back to the 70;s. We had a lot of good times together. Lately As a local Hockey Referee I would see him at the local rinks with his youngest boy helping out with the team. It was always a pleasure to see Randy. I will miss you Pal! RIP!

I've known Randy since we were ME students at Cornell, although it's been several years since we got together. It's very sad to lose someone as creative and energetic as Randy at such an early age. We had many great times out at George Head's dairy farm. He was always generous and helpful with his time and knowledge, especially with cars. He loved the Ithaca area greatly and I was very happy when he found a career he enjoyed which allowed him to more fully use his talents, stay in the area and grow a family. My deepest condolences to his many friends and family.

It's been sometime since I had seen Randy but I was always greeted with a smile. We were friends for quite sometime before and after Ian was born. It came as quite a shock to see his name in the obits. He will be greatly missed by all I have no doubt. Perhaps he will be able to join Zeke now and I hope that they are playing together.
