Josephine Carpenter Obituary

JOSEPHINE AGNES
KNEIP CARPENTER
FORMERLY OF ITHACA - Josephine Agnes Carpenter, formerly of Ithaca, passed away on July 11, 2008, at the Susquehanna Nursing Home in Johnson City, NY. Josephine was born and raised in Anaheim, CA, the daughter of Adolph and Matilda Kniep. Josephine met her husband of 62 years, Carl Carpenter, on a blind date while he was stationed in Riverside, CA, during WWII. Carl and Josephine were married at St. Bonaventure Church on November 5, 1946. Carl predeceased Josephine in January 2008. Josephine was mother of David (Maureen) of Philadelphia, PA; Timothy, deceased (Joyce); Cynthia (Simeon) of Lowell, MA; Mary of Newark Valley, NY; and Regina of Ithaca, NY. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
Josephine and Carl lived most of their married life in Clayton, NY, where they owned and operated a corner grocery, Carpenter's Grocery. Josephine was an accomplished seamstress, knitter and lace maker. She graduated from Jefferson Community College, Watertown, NY, in 1976 with an Associate Degree in Psychology. She was a quiet and private woman who showed her family love through acts of thoughtfulness. She was a tremendously hardworking woman who loved classical music, crafts, BINGO!, donuts, word play, Shakespeare and her donkey collection. She bequests her love of donkeys to her grandaughter, Carla.
Our family would like to thank the nursing and direct care staff of Susquehanna Nursing Home and Lourdes Hospice for their affectionate and professional care of our mother and father at the end of their lives. Arrangements are by Bangs Funeral Home.
