Thomas Straight Obituary
CORTLAND - Thomas H. Straight, 78, of Cortland, passed away July 14, 2008 in Cortland Regional Medical Center.
Thomas was born October 13, 1929 in Plainfield, New Jersey, the son of the late Erie A. and Eloise L. Pateman Straight. Thomas served his country with the United States Air Force during the Korean War, then continued his military service with the Air Force Reserves for a total of 37 years of military service. Thomas and his wife, Margarete were founders of Essex Steel and Port Watson Park. His memberships included the Tompkins County Conservative Party, and the Cortland County Antique Car Club.
Thomas is survived by his wife of 49 years, M. Margarete Abrosat Straight of Cortland, NY; his sons, Barry (Cindy) Straight of Penfield, NY, Peter (Ann Marie) Straight of Niagara Falls, NY; his daughter, Karen (Harold) Barden of Town of Caroline, NY; his brother, Walter (Marian) Straight of Rochester, NY; his sisters, Frances (Wilford) Sherman of Horseheads, NY, Mary Lou (Gerald) Cartledge of Alfred, NY; his grandchildren, Maggie and Beth Straight, Sarah, Kathryn, Daniel, and Hannah Barden. In addition to his parents, Thomas was predeceased by his brother, Abbott Straight.
Friends are invited to call Friday evening from 4-6 p.m. and Saturday from 1-3 p.m. at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home, 9 Lincoln Ave., Cortland. Funeral Services will be held 3:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Marathon Cemetery.
Anyone wishing to make a memorial contribution in Thomas' name is asked to consider the Marathon American Legion, RT 11, Marathon, NY 13803; or the McLean Fire Department, 2 Stevens Road, McLean, NY 13102.

My deepest condolences to all of the Straight family. I graduated from high school with Pete and enjoyed conversations about local automobile history with Tom when I was Cortland County Historian. Please know my prayers are with you during this sad time.
