Grace Terwilliger Obituary

GRACE E. TERWILLIGER
ITHACA - Grace E. Terwilliger, of 355 Snyder Hill Rd., Ithaca, passed away on July 18, 2008 at Cayuga Medical Center at the age of 87.
Born in Ithaca on May 31, 1921, Grace was a daughter of the late Harvey and Esther (Matter) Updike. She was a 1938 graduate of Ithaca High School and worked at Ithaca Gun during WWII. Grace worked in various jobs while she and her late husband, William, raised their family. She ultimately retired from the Ithaca City School District after 21 years of service. After the death of her husband, she showed her independence by obtaining her driver's license at the age of 70.
Grace's most memorable moments were those spent with family, especially her great-grandchildren, whom she adored; they brought her much enjoyment. She loved anything sweet and her apple pies were enjoyed by many and will definitely be missed. Grace was a passionate fan of the NY Yankees, she enjoyed reading, watching TV, and going out with friends.
In addition to her parents, Grace was preceded in death by her husband, William; a sister, Eloise Canzeri; and her beloved dog, Buffy.
She is survived by her daughter, Nancy (William Jr.) Housworth of Trumansburg; a granddaughter, Rebecca (Steve) Jackson of Trumansburg; two great-granddaughters, Emily and Abigail Jackson of Trumansburg. Grace is also survived by two sisters, Beverly Harshbarger of Twin Falls, ID, and Frances (Richard) Caveney of Yucaipa, CA; nieces, nephews, cousins; and a son, Philip Terwilliger and his family.
Those wishing to remember Grace in the form of a contribution are asked to kindly consider Foodnet, 2422 N. Triphammer Rd., Ithaca, NY 14850; Varna Fire Co., 14 Turkey Hill Rd., Ithaca, NY 14850; or Gadabout, 737 Willow Ave., Ithaca, NY 14850.
Family will be present to receive friends at Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South St., Trumansburg, on Tuesday, July 22, from 6-8 p.m. A funeral service, officiated by Rev. Nelson Reppert, will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, July 23, 2008, at 11 a.m., followed by burial at Snyder Hill Cemetery, Ithaca, NY.

Nancy,
When I saw your mother's picture, I was sure you were her daughter.
Her energy and independence were admirable.

I enjoyed seeing you last July and will be thinking of you as you
move forward.
Helen
