CANANDAIGUA - Frederick "Fred" Stewart, 80, passed away Wednesday, July 30, 2008, at Thompson Hospital.
Fred was born in the Town of Lodi on January 25, 1928 to the late Bert and Mary Stewart, Sr. He was a graduate of Interlaken High School and served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He had been a heavy equipment operator for several years. He retired in 1995 after twenty years with the Town of Perinton Highway Department, serving the last eleven and a half years as Deputy Highway Superintendent. He was a member of the American Legion and the Livingston, Wayne, Monroe and Ontario County Highway Superintendents Associations. Fred was a long standing member of the Lafayette Diner Coffee Club.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Katherine "Katie" of Canandaigua; his sisters, Eleanor Swartz, Ithaca, Betty Reynolds, Troy, PA, and Agnes Morris, Homer, NY; his brothers, Thomas (Carol Carnahan) Stewart, Caywood, NY, Bert (Yvonne) Stewart, Trumansburg, and Harold (Barbara) Stewart, Interlaken; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Rita Fish; and his brother, George Stewart. Fred's sister, Evelyn Georgia, of Ithaca, recently passed away.
Services were held at the Fuller Funeral Home in Canandaigua and burial was in St. Michael's Cemetery, Livonia. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Canandaigua Emergency Squad. To share a memory or express condolences online, please visit www.fullerfh.com.
