ALICE M. ALLEN
NEWFIELD - Alice M. Allen, 93, of Newfield, died Monday, September 1, 2008, at Bethany Manor in Horseheads. Born in Ithaca, she was a daughter of the late Hulse and Mary Smith, and wife of the late Kenneth Allen, who died in 1989.
Mrs. Allen graduated from Ithaca High School in 1934. She had worked for Rumsey Ithaca/Ithaca Sand and Gravel for many years until it closed.
She was a longtime member of the Newfield United Methodist Church. She also attended the Trumbull Corners Community Church. Mrs. Allen enjoyed crocheting, gardening, and the outdoors. She enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Mrs. Allen was always willing to help out and offer her home to many people over the years.
Mrs. Allen is survived by her son, Nelson K. (Connie) Allen of Newfield; daughter, Lyla (Stanley) Briggs of Marathon; grandchildren, Andrew (Sandy) Allen of Newfield, Barry Briggs of Marathon, Bruce Briggs of Marathon, Brian (Heather) Briggs of Macomb, IL, and Becky Briggs of Marathon; great-grandchildren, Carly, Jeffrey, Eric, Hunter and Austin; sisters, Ella Miller and Aline Everhart (Alice's twin sister). In addition to her parents and husband of 50 years, she was predeceased by her granddaughter, Ann C. Allen; and brother, Earl Smith.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 13, at the Trumbull Corners Community Church, Rev. Dale Ford officiating. There are no calling hours.
