SVEN WILLIAM LOMAN
DRYDEN - Sven William Loman, age 94, of 13 Weber Street, Dryden, NY, passed away Tuesday, September 30, 2008, at the Beechtree Care Center in Ithaca, NY after a time of declining health. Mr. Loman was born May 29, 1914 in Sweden, the son of the late Charles and Alma Swensen Loman. He immigrated to the United States at age 7 and resided in Binghamton, NY where he was graduated from Binghamton High School. Additionally he was graduated with honors from Cornell University in 1939 with a degree in Horticulture. Sven was proud to serve his country in World War II, being honorably discharged from the US Army Air Corps after having obtained the rank of Staff Sergeant. On February 14, 1942 he was married to the former Alice Dann at Christ Chapel, George Junior Republic. Alice passed away on June 14, 2000. Sven attended The First Presbyterian Church of Dryden and was a member of the Dryden Senior Citizens. A Master Gardener, Sven was employed for 41 years at the George Junior Republic and was responsible for the perfectly manicured gardens on the grounds which were places of great personal pride for him.
Survivors include many nieces and nephews, a brother-in-law and sisters-in-law from his wife's family.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, October 4, 2008, at the Perkins Funeral Home with Rev. David C. Robinson officiating. Burial with Military Honors provided by members of the Dryden Veterans Memorial Home Ritual Team will follow in Willow Glen Cemetery, Dryden. Friends are invited to call from 10 to 11 a.m., Saturday at the funeral home, 55 West Main St., Dryden.
