EDWARD WALTER KING
ITHACA - Edward Walter King, of 1356 Slaterville Road in Ithaca, NY 14850, a member of The Greatest Generation, died peacefully at the age of 85 after a long illness on October 1st, 2008. He was born on January 13, 1923, in Wayne County, PA, the son of John L.F. and Irene Davis King. He spent most of his childhood and grew up in Salamanca, NY, during the Great Depression. He received his Bachelor's degree from Cornell University, then fought in World War II in Europe. He served in the US Army Air Corps in the 467th Bombardment Group, 789th Bomb Squadron, Crew #46 (Known as the Ed King Crew, http://www.the467tharchive.org/king.html and http://www.467bg.com), and was the pilot of a B-24 Liberator bomber. He was stationed at Rackheath, England and served in bombing missions over Germany in 1944-45. After the war, he attended Cornell University Law School. While a law student, he met and married Bente Starcke from Helsinge, Denmark, with whom he had three children and who predeceased him in 2005. After earning his Law degree in 1948, he joined Edward J. Casey in Ithaca to form the law firm Casey and King, which served the Ithaca community for over 50 years practicing civil and family law. He later married Theresa Formica McClune of Salamanca, NY, who also acted as his secretary in his law practice. Mr. King leaves behind in mourning his wife, Theresa; as well as his three children, Gregory King, MD of 655 Main St., Bennington, VT 05201, Leslie Anne Comings of French Camp Academy, One Fine Place, French Camp, MS 39745, and Suzanne King, PhD of 1228 Beatty Ave., Verdun, Quebec H4H 1Y1; as well as eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
There will be no calling hours or services at this time. Private Graveside Services will be held in Salamanca, NY. Bangs Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.
