William Kiernan Obituary

WILLIAM J. KIERNAN
FORMERLY OF ITHACA - William J. Kiernan, of Macedon, NY, and formerly of Cortland and Ithaca, passed away Monday, October 06, 2008, at F.F. Thompson Hospital, Canandaigua, NY at the age of 92. Born July 21, 1916 in Cortland, Will was the son of Joseph H. and Josephine M. Reardon Kiernan.
A communicant of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Cortland, Will was a member of the first graduating class at St. Mary's High School also in Cortland and a graduate of Niagara University. Will faithfully served his country in the Army Air Corps during World War II.
Will was employed by MetLife for 24 years and then went on to work for and retire from First Federal Savings & Loan in Ithaca, NY.
He is survived by his wife, Theresa McCallen Kiernan at home; two daughters, Rita Kiernan and Darlene Wendt, both of Farmington, NY; two granddaughters, Kalina and Keelyn Kiernan of Farmington; three brothers, Rev. Thomas F. Kiernan and Patrick M. Kiernan, both of Homer and Robert (Jean) Kiernan of Auburn; and several nieces and nephews and cousins. Will was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph; and two sisters, Katherine and Josephine; and sister-in-law, Margaret Kiernan.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be concelebrated on Thursday at 11 a.m. in St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church with Mr. Kiernan's brother, Rev. Thomas F. Kiernan and Monsignor Michael Minehan. Prayers of committal will follow in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Cortland, NY. The Kiernan family will be present to receive friends on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. in the Chapel of Riccardi Funeral Home, 69 N. Main St., Cortland. The family has asked that contributions, in lieu of flowers, be made to St. Mary's Parochial School, 61 N. Main St., Cortland, NY 13045.
