John Barney Obituary
ITHACA - John C. Barney, local attorney, died at home peacefully on October 8, 2008 surrounded by his family.
A celebration of John's life will be held on Friday, October 17th, at 3 p.m. at the Unitarian Church, 306 N. Aurora St. (corner of Aurora and Buffalo), Ithaca, NY.

Joyce & Family, please know that we offer our sympathy on the loss of John. He has been a friend and a competent lawyer for me for over 30 years. He helped me start Ithaca Peripherals (now Transact Tech across from the Post Office) in 1983. He also helped Karen and I in many issues including our wills. He was always kind and understanding and worked at the highest professional level on every project. He will be remembered for a long time and sorely missed.

To The Barney Family:
I had the great honor of working with and knowing John during his tenure as the Attorney for the Town of Ithaca and considered him a great friend and confidant. His soft spoken but yet knowlegeable and assertive words had a great impact on all who knew him. He was admired and loved by all who had the great pleasure of knowing and working with him.
John always acknowleged everyone from every walk of life and always made time to talk to those who needed him, regardless of what the need was.
May you find solace that he is at peace and never forget he loved his family and will always be there watching over you. May you be blessed with his loving protection and know he will be flying high above, guiding you through life with admiration and love for all of you.

It was with sadness that I learned of John's death. He was definitely a positive force in developing Lansing's educational programs through his involvement on the Board of Education. His candid assessment of issues and his willingness to work to resolve these was exceptional. My sincere sympathies to the entire family.

joyce when i notified the kids that our john had passed they were all deeply moved. Kahil captured it best by reflecting,'we lost an important and special member of our extended family.' John was my attorney and friend for thirty years. John is what some of us old schoolers call a agentleman and just a good man. We extend our deepest symphathy to you, John Jr.Bill and Karen.
