Max, Will, and James:
I added a picture a few days ago -
"Allen strolling in the park in MEDIUM COOL [c. 1970] by Haskell Wexler" near the 1968 Democratic National Convention which reflects Allen's life, interests, and activities in an earlier era (this just before the Daly police riot in Chicago during the Convention)
Allen was a special person - deeply into music, out-of-the-box thinking, and challenging aspects of the status quo.
I am so glad that I spent about 3 hours with him for in July. First time since about 1971. We went out for lunch in Ithaca. Not quite enough time to catch up but it was at least a good start.

In the fall of 1967 I was a pretty apolitical and naive fraternity brother of Allen's at UNC when he told us he was going to the March on the Pentagon. It made me think more about the war and what I could
do.

I first met Allen, Will and Max in the late 80,s when Max started school. He was dedicated to you boys with every event becoming a lesson from which to learn. What a teacher he was! I will always remember his warm smile, gentle voice and his delicious pear chutney. I often saw him enjoying the water at Lodi Point with family and friends. My sincerest condolences Max, Will and Jim.

I attended Carolina with Allen, and went to the March on Washington with him. I regret that I have not seen him since then. He was a very nice, very thoughtful person and a very good friend.
