DAVID E. THOMAS
JENKSVILLE (BERKSHIRE) - David "Big Guy" Thomas, 71, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, November 13, 2007. He was surrounded by his loving family. Dave is survived by his mother, Anita Thomas of Owego; his loving wife of 51 years, Beverly A. (Lawrence) Thomas; his sons, Charles (Lois Handzel) Thomas, David and Papi Thomas, Dan and Roxi Thomas; his daughter, Cheryl (Tim Harding) Thomas; his brother, Don and Beverly Thomas; his sister, Betty and John Calkins; his sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Thomas Odom; his mother-in-law, Ruth Lawrence; brother-in-law, Bob and Priscilla Lawrence; sister-in-law, Lynda Lawrence. Also surviving are his six cherished grandchildren whom he adored, Tiffany, Adam, Brittany, Hunter, Dustin, Padiann; several nieces, nephews and many friends. He was predeceased by his father, Harrison Thomas; brother, Frank Thomas; and father-in-law, Robert Lawrence.
Dave was a member of the Jenksville United Methodist Church. He was an electrician for Tompkins County Buildings and Grounds Dept. and for many years the Big Guy had been a general contractor in the area. He was an honest and warmhearted man who was in turn respected and loved in his community. He was often seen "miles from home" in his golf cart.
His family will receive friends at their home, 7955 West Creek Rd., Newark Valley on Thursday from 3 until 7 p.m. Services will be at the convenience of the family. The Cooley Family of MacPherson Funeral Home, Newark Valley, is assisting with arrangements.
