Janet Burt Obituary
ITHACA - Janet Meader Burt, age 89, resident of Longview in Ithaca, died November 12, 2007. Janet was born in Jamestown on August 26, 1918, a daughter of the late George Meader and Julia Weingard Meader Luth. She was a 50 year resident of Ithaca and a Registered Pediatric Nurse who worked many years at the Pediatrician's office of Dr.'s Davis, Perry, & Speno and following retirement volunteered at the Finger Lakes Library.
Janet is survived by her only son, Daniel J. (Joan) Burt of Houston, Texas; three grandchildren, Joanna Burt (Rick) Iribarren of Weston, Florida, Caroline Burt (Konrad) Rudnicki of Dallas, Texas, and Katherine C. Burt of Houston, Texas; four great-grandchildren, William Rudnicki, Hugh Rudnicki, Ava Iribarren, and Nickolas Iribarren. Janet is preceded in death by her beloved twin sister, Jeanne Janas.
A Memorial Service will be held at St. Luke Lutheran Church, 109 Oak Avenue, on Thursday, November 15, 2007, at 3:00 p.m. Burial will be private in Sunset Hill Cemetery in Jamestown. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Outreach Dept., Finger Lakes Library System, 314 North Cayuga Street, Ithaca 14850.

I worked with Janet one summer when I was between my 2-yrs. of nursing school @ Upstate Medical Center. She was, as she had been for years, even then, the RN for Drs. Davis, Perry, and Speno on Albany Street.
As a child, our family used this pediatric practice for all four of us, as we became older kids. Janet was all about business, and I mean "no monkey busineses", but she loved taking care of the kids; making recommendations when distraught moms would call, not knowing what to do or whether to bring their child in or not.
Behind what may have appeared as a somewhat "prickly" demeanor, was a brilliant woman whose priority was always the children. I have missed working in that office many times over the years, and my mentor, Janet Burt, R.N.

I just heared about Janet's death today. We were friends for 21 years after meeting at FLLS. I'm sorry to have missed the service. She was there for me when my own mother died. We went together to movies for many years and she always knew what fruits and vegetables were in season and where to buy them. Whenever I would visit her at Longview she would show me the newest crop of family pictures. I will miss her greatly.
