Rodney Besemer Obituary

RODNEY HERMAN BESEMER
ITHACA - Rodney Herman Besemer, 75, died on December 10, 2007 after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family at his son, Robert's home.
Born October 13, 1932 in Ithaca, NY, Rodney was a son of the late Herman D. and Carrie (Marion) Besemer. A lifetime resident of the Ithaca area, Rodney owned his own trucking business and retired in 1984 from the family owned business, Cayuga Crushed Stone. He was a member of the Masons, Fidelity Lodge #51 in Ithaca, Trumansburg Star Chapter #479 Order of the Eastern Star, and Trumansburg Senior Citizens. Rodney enjoyed bird watching, woodworking, camping, traveling, and especially gardening. He was an avid rose and vegetable gardener and always planted more than enough for the Besemer family as well as the animals around his home.
Rodney is survived by his wife of 56 years, Beverly Tall Besemer; sons, Thomas of Lansing, NY, William (Susan) of Spencer, NY, and Robert (Cindy) of Ithaca, NY; daughters, Linda Duddleston of Interlaken, NY, and Susan Besemer (Ed Kaulen) of Atlanta, GA; brother, Richard (Kathy) Besemer of Slaterville Springs, NY; sisters, Joyce Stout of Eustis, FL, Lois (Jim) Stout of North Port, FL, and Phyllis (Dave) Sprague of Cayuga, NY; grandchildren, Erin Duddleston of Lansing, NY, Greg (Tiana) Duddleston and Ben Duddleston of Centereach, NY, Matthew (Karen) Besemer of Lansing, NY, Toni Besemer of Ithaca, NY, Christine Besemer of Ithaca, NY, Sarah Besemer of Spencer, NY, Michael Brooks of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Rodney Brooks of Atlanta, GA. Rodney is also survived by his great-grandsons, Ryan and Joseph Besemer of Lansing, NY, Jack Brooks of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Caleb Duddleston of Centereach, NY; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to remember Rodney in the form of a contribution are asked to consider Hospicare, 172 E. King Rd., Ithaca, NY 14850, or The American Cancer Society, 57 Front St., Binghamton, NY 13905-4704.

Always enjoyed all of Rodney's stories about his adventures and of course the numerous jokes he had to tell. It made coffee and lunch at Taughannock Falls an interesting time.

Bev and Family,
My deepest sympathy is with you at this time. When Jack passed away, I had a very dear friend give me this old Indian Prayer and I'll try to pass it on to you as I found comfort in it from time to time;

I give you this one thought to keep-I am with you still, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,I am the diamond glints on the snow, I am the sunlight on ripened grain, I am the gentle autumn rain.

When you awaken in the morning's hush, I am the swift uplifting rush of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night.

Do not think of me as gone-I am with you still, in each new dawn.

In Friendship & Sympathy,
Jacki

Erin and family,

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

So sorry to hear of your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
