Ronald Jones Obituary

RONALD A.
JONES, 67
Deloitte and Touche

MIAMI - Ronald A. Jones, a resident of Pinecrest (Miami), FL passed away on January 8, 2008 after a long, hard-fought battle with cancer.
He is survived by his wife of 46 long, loving, magnificent years, Brenda Robison Jones, his two children, Scott Jones (Meg) and Brooke Knapp (Clark), four beautiful grandchildren, Courtney, Chelsea, Sloane and Reese, and his brother and sister, Guerry Jones and Karen Jones.
Ron is a native of Lakeland, FL. He was known in high-school as "Hoops" and was the starting point guard of the state champion 1957 Lakeland Dreadnaught basketball team. Ron was a self-made success story simultaneously putting himself through college, working, and raising a young family. At the age of 62, he retired as a Partner with Deloitte and Touche where he enjoyed a 35-year long career ... a career and a firm that he loved, and that loved him back. He loved his work so much that he stayed on as a consultant for Deloitte after retirement and worked as much as he could to the very end. Ron loved to read, watch Gator football, do crossword puzzles, listen to rock music, drink good wine, and play golf with his lifelong friends (of which he had many). He was a fearsome Trivial Pursuit player who, once he got his turn, it was all but certain that no one else would get a turn, as he didn't miss. If there was one word most often used to describe Ron by anyone who knew him it was "selfless". His unconditionally loving spirit will be missed greatly, but he leaves his family strong and determined to love and support one another.
Services will be held Friday, January 11, at 1:00 p.m. at Saint David's Episcopal Church, 145 East Edgewood Drive, Lakeland, Florida 33803 (Phone: 863-686-4143), followed by a "Celebration of a Life Well-Lived" at the home of his brother, Guerry. In lieu of flowers, those who wish can make a contribution to the Ronald A. Jones Children's Memorial Fund, the proceeds of which will go to St. Jude's Children's Research Fund.

Was sorry to hear about Ronnie's passing. He was the grandson of my Great Aunt Lilley Jones (Clara Gambel Burnett's sister) We all loved his father Raymond and as time puts distance between people it does not stop family from being important. Just wanted you to know we still consider you all an important part of our family.

Guerry & Family - so sorry to hear of Ronnie passing - you may not remember us, but Fritz and I sure do remember the Jones family as we were growing up across the street from you and Ronnie - what great times we had playing ball together. Our prayers and sympathies are with you, Brenda and the family.

I am sorry to hear of Ron's passing. His dad, Raymond and my dad were brothers. I have good memories of childhood playtimes and later school years. Although we have left the state after retirement to SC mountains, our son is still in Lakeland and daughter in Orlando area. Prayers go out to all.

Brenda and Family:

Sorry to hear about Ron. He was one of the most respected people that I had the pleasure to be acquainted with in high school and one of the best at all the things he did. His accomplishments are well noted and I know that he will be sorely missed. I pray that God will give you all comfort at this trying time.

Ron was the first partner I worked for with D&T. He was a wonderful man who took great care of me and the other people on our team - "selfless" as his story said. He was a wonderful partner and a great leader in our Firm and touched many people. He will be missed.

I owe much of my personal and professional success to the legacy that Ron Jones helped build in the Tampa office of Deloitte. May the Jones family find peace in knowing that Ron's was a life well lived.
