Carol Alice Bloom, 82, of Kingston, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2023, at General Hospital.
Born in Luzerne, Pa., on Jan. 26, 1941, to the late Orville and Cleta Hower Atherholt. She was a graduate of Luzerne High School and Nesbitt School of Nursing. She was a registered nurse at Nesbitt Memorial Hospital for over 25 years, servicing as an emergency room nurse and supervisor, she was a private practice nurse with Dr. Lobitz and Dr. Lombard, finishing her career as a supervisor at Mercy Special Care Hospital.
Carol was a member of Luzerne United Methodist Church. She was a member of the choir for many years. She also served as chairperson of the semiannual rummage sale.
In additional to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. Bloom Jr.; son, Stephen E. Bloom; and grandson, Matthew J. Poveromo.
Surviving are her sons, Charles A. Bloom and his wife, Judy; Brian Bloom and his fiancée, Karen Amos, all of Kingston; daughters, Alice Poveromo and her husband, Vince, Scranton; Susan Lee and her husband, Alan, of Luzerne; grandchildren, Amanda Poveromo, Christopher Bloom, Alan (A.J.) Lee, Rachel Bloom and Leo Donavan; stepgranddaughter, Jessica (Ryan) Lee; and stepgreat-grandson, Lexus Lee; brother, Ray Atherholt and wife, Dianne, Estero, Fla.; brother-in-law, Walter Bloom and his wife, Cindy, Hollidaysburg; and sister-in-law, Carolyn Bloom, Carlisle; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Oct. 21, at 10 a.m. from Hugh B. Hughes & Sons Funeral Home, 1044 Wyoming Ave., Forty Fort, with Pastor Lucy Obrzut, pastor of Luzerne United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be held in Chapel Lawn Memorial Park, Dallas.
Family and friends may call Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. and from 9 a.m. to the time of service on Saturday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Luzerne United Methodist Church, 446 Bennett St., Luzerne, PA 18709; or to the charity of one's choice in Carol's name.
