Marjorie McTurk Obituary
Marjorie was born on Nov. 9, 1923 in Darlington, England, the daughter of the late Edward and Ellen (Wilson) Robinson. She attended local schools and served in the British Navy during WWII, where she met her future husband. She married John McTurk Sr. on July 14, 1945 in Darlington, England. Sadly, he predeceased her in 1992.
John and Marjorie immigrated to the United States in 1957 with their then four children, William, Brenda, John and Anne. Their fifth child Irene was born seven years later. Together they owned and operated the family business, Colonial IGA Markets. They were residents of the area for 50 years. When Marjorie wasn't working at the family store or tending to her children, she enjoyed gardening and traveling.
Marjorie is survived by her four children: Brenda Foberg of Pawcatuck; John McTurk Jr. of East Lyme; and Anne McTurk Watrous and Irene McTurk Ayotte of Pawcatuck. She is also survived by her brother, Eric Robinson of Darlington, England; 15 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her son, William McTurk; her brother, Ken Robinson; and her sister, Hilda Robinson.
A funeral service for Marjorie will be held on Monday, Aug. 11 at Dunn's Corners Community Church Presbyterian, 221 Post Road, Westerly at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Stonington Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Marjorie's memory may be made to Home & Hospice Care of Rhode Island, 169 George Street, Pawtucket, R.I. 02860.
