Margaret Moothart Obituary

Margaret E. (Morrison) Moothart, native of Stonington, beloved wife of the late Kenneth Leroy Moothart passed away on Thursday, Aug. 14, 2008 at home with her great niece and nephew, Karen and Edward Gaffney by her side. She fought a long courageous battle with cancer and heart disease, which never allowed her to lose her wit and good sense of humor.
She was born on Feb. 2, 1920 in Stonington, and was the daughter of the late Allen James and Margaret Mary (Wilson) Morrison.
Besides her great-niece and nephew, Karen and Edward Gaffney of Pawcatuck, who she carried a special bond with, she leaves a sister, Jane A. Cassell of Pawcatuck; nieces and nephews; other great nieces and nephews; great-great nieces and nephews; and great-great-great nieces and nephews.
Aunt Peggy loved taking in foster children over the years and also leaves her foster daughter, Rebecca Wilson, and her two children, Tanya Pittman and Debbie Fox, who considered Margaret their "Nana."
She was predeceased by four brothers, Bill, Charles, Kenny and Robert; three sisters, Mary, Helen, and Frances; her companion of many years, Gaetano Verzillo; and many close friends.
Margaret was very active with the VFW Ladies Auxillary, served as president of the Stonington Golden Agers and was a member of the Red Hat Society.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Aug. 18 at 9:15 a.m. from the Mystic Funeral Home, Route 1, Mystic, followed by a mass at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Church, Stonington. Burial will follow at St. Patrick Cemetery, Mystic.
The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home.
