BARRE TOWN - The service of remembrance and celebration of the life of Melvin A. Friberg, of Wildersburg Common, was held Tuesday, May 19, 2009, at 1 p.m. in the Barre Congregational Church. He died May 15, 2009, at Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin.
The Rev. Dereen Vanderlinde-Abernathy, covering minister and pastor of the Berlin Congregational Church, led the service.
His daughters Nancy Pope and Carolyn Friberg and son-in-law Carl Yalicki shared their memories of Mellie with the congregation.

Fellowship and refreshments followed in the church dining room.
The graveside service preceded at the Hope Cemetery in Barre where the Rev. Vanderlinde-Abernathy offered the committal prayers. The folded American flag was presented to his wife, Merilyn Friberg, by Bruce W. Judd.

Uncle Mel was a man to look up to. He provided for and always stood by his family, community and country. He was kind, gentle and as rock solid as the granite he worked with. We admired and loved you Uncle Mel.

Mrs. Friberg & family,
I am so very sorry to hear about Mellie. I was new to the granite business in 1987 and Mellie was the first to visit me from Barre. To this day, the best ambassador and a Gentleman's Gentleman... My best always,
