Sandy
I retired from DEC in 2002 as the Natural Resource Supervisor in Region 7. I also am a long time member of the Federation of NYS Bird Clubs and served as president in 89 to 91. I knew Bob from both of these activities. Bob was a professional's professional, a biologist's biologist and a gentlemen's gentlemen. He was always an inspiration to me and a pleasure to know. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Sandy, I met you once when Bob invited me in to your house while we were traveling somewhere to and from work. I always counted on Bob to drive with me anytime I was in New York, which he always did. He is one of the few people that I have missed greatly after he retired. Fortunately that meant he could spend that time with you, rather than me. I always enjoyed hearing of your trips together, such as to Key West, which did inspire me to take my husband there, who Bob also worked with as his counterpart in Massachusetts. Bob was one of the best people that I know; he was so kind and always there when I needed help. I have missed him at work, and now I will miss him even more. My heart goes out to you in your loss. Best wishes to you.

Sandy: Although you and I met only briefly, with Bob, at a conference somewhere within the last couple years, I worked with him on Little Galloo Island for a numbers of years during the 1980s and 1990s. I always enjoyed working with him; he was cool under pressure (not that there was ever too much of that on Little Galloo), always calm, and above all, always a thoroughly nice guy. He was a gentleman. He was always willing to help...and always willing to let others help him. As a Canadian, maybe I was pushing the envelope a little by always wanting to be involved with things on Little Galloo Island...but he was glad to have the help. He was the New Yorker most responsible, I think, for getting NYSDEC involved in doing work on Little Galloo Island, which is such a fabulous place and a place which Bob enjoy immensely.
I missed Bob when he retired from NYSDEC; trips to the island were just not the same. I will miss him much more now. You have my heartfelt sympathy in mourning Bob'passing...he was a compassionate biologist and a great guy.
Sincerely,

Sandy:
So sad to hear about Bob. We had some good times over the years at Delmar. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

I was most pleased and honored to visit with Bob and family last month, at your home. Thank you so much for all the wonderful memories I now have to savor. Although I gave Bob some tough times over the years we worked together, he was a most supportive and sympathetic supervisor. I will miss him very much. Please accept my condolescenses. I will think of you (and him) often; if I can be of assistance at any time, please don't hesitate to call.
