Henry Marks Obituary

DELMAR Henry F. Marks, 83, died Saturday, February 19, 2005 at Albany Medical Center after a long illness. Born in Ilion, N.Y., Mr. Marks was the son of the late Minnie (Jones) and Howard Marks. Mr. Marks interrupted his college education to serve his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the local chapter of the Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge. Following the war, Henry returned to Rider College where he met his wife of 56 years, Eleanore Case Marks. He was a purchasing agent for Sterling Winthrop in Rensselaer, retiring in 1983. Henry's Welsh background showed in his love of music. He was a 41 year member and past president of the Mendelssohn Club of Albany and a tenor soloist at the First United Methodist Church of Delmar. Henry built the house where he lived for 52 years and enjoyed volunteering for Habitat for Humanity. He also loved building clocks and gardening. A special pleasure for Henry was helping to restore his 1930 Model A Roadster. After driving for several years for the Red Cross, he drove a Town of Bethlehem Senior Van for many years and also delivered Meals On Wheels. In addition to his wife Eleanore, Henry is survived by a son, Tom (Wendy) Marks of Delmar; a daughter, Cheryl Stees (The Rev. Dr. Ray R. Stees) of Colonie; a sister, M. Elizabeth Marks of Herkimer, N.Y.; and two grandsons, Greg and Eric Stees. He was predeceased by a daughter, Cynthia Marks in 1999. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Avenue, Delmar on Wednesday, February 23, 2005 from 12 to 2 p.m. and may attend the funeral services which will be held at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Bethlehem Cemetery, Delmar. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Bethlehem Senior Projects, Inc., 445 Delaware Avenue, Delmar, NY 12054.
