John Fisher Obituary

John Allan Fisher, 76, of Columbia, Missouri, passed away peacefully in his home on Feb. 1, 2025. He was lovingly cared for by his wife and compassionate workers from Phoenix Home Care and Hospice.
John was born in Washington, DC on Aug. 27, 1948. His parents, Nicholas John Fisher and Anna Wall Fisher, preceded him in death.
After graduation from Duval High School in Lanham, Maryland, in 1966, John joined the Army, where he qualified for Special Forces and served two tours in Vietnam as an X-ray technician. After discharge, John began his forty-year career with the United States Postal Service. Starting as a mail carrier, he advanced to supervisor and then financial administrator. His work ethic and dependability were exceptional.
In 1976, John and Linda Reynolds were married. They had two daughters. The marriage ended in 1982.
John enjoyed photography and traveled to historical places in Maryland, Pennsylvania and Virginia, taking pictures for the bicentennial in 1976. He was also a very capable carpenter and, along with his father, built an addition onto his home in Laurel, Maryland.
John and Rosemary (Gossell) Rickert were united in marriage on June 16, 1990. In 2007, they moved to Columbia, Missouri, and enjoyed watching their dream home be built. Together they designed and decorated their home, landscaping with colorful flowers, fruit trees and bushes. John appreciated the peaceful acreage and even enjoyed mowing the lawn and plowing snow from the driveway.
In the later years of his life, John renewed his love of rough collies. At the time of his passing, John was loved by two – Regina and Brynn. They already miss him.
John is survived by his wife of 34 years, Rosemary, two daughters, Brooke and Jessica Fisher, and two stepsons, Andrew and Todd Rickert, nine grandchildren and one great-granddaughter, in addition to his sister Denise Brady and nephews Dean and Austin Brady.
In accordance with John's wishes, no services will be held. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to a charity of your choice.
