Edward Hudson Obituary
Edward C. Hudson

Edward C. Hudson, 100, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 9, 2023, in Albuquerque, New Mexico with his daughter Carol and son-in-law Tom at his side. Ed, a native New Mexican, was born in Reserve, New Mexico in 1923. He was the 6th of 8 children born to Archie and Laeuna Hudson.
Ed graduated from Reserve High School and worked as an assistant postmaster in Reserve before enlisting and serving three years in the Army Air Corp. during World War II. Under the G.I. Bill, Ed attended UNM graduating in 1950 with a degree in Civil Engineering. Soon after, Ed joined the Bureau of Reclamation in the Engineering Division. Ed worked tirelessly for the Bureau of Reclamation for 33 years, starting first in Project Development, moving up to Chief of Programs and Reports Division and ending his career as Chief of Engineering Division, Middle Rio Grande Project.
Ed, a die-hard Lobo, was an original season ticket holder at the Pit supporting Lobo Basketball for 55 consecutive seasons. Away games were always diligently listened to on his radio, from pregame to postgame. Ed also was a dedicated volunteer track and field official for 17 years.
Ed's family was always his greatest joy. He was an involved, devoted, ever present and patient Dad, Papa and Great Papa and was very passionate about supporting his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren in their many athletic endeavors and various other activities.
Ed will be best remembered for his gentle kind soul, his incredible thankful nature for every kindness shown to him, his witty humor, his compassion, thoughtfulness and the joy he found in all things, but mostly the simple things.
Ed enjoyed gardening, tending to his turtles, fishing, camping, Sunday breakfasts at Weck's and sharing many meals with his family, always gushing about how "beautiful and delicious" each plate of food was. Having self-proclaimed himself the "old man with a stick" he also enjoyed walking daily to Arroyo Del Oso soccer fields to watch and socialize with his many friends associated with the Duke City Electric Flyers.
Ed was preceded in death by his wife, Winnie, his son Ted, his parents and his 7 siblings. Ed is survived by his children Jeff Hudson, Tracee Hudson (Hans), Bruce Hudson, Carol Knauber (Tom) and Todd Hudson; his grandchildren Adrienne Grindstaff (Matt), Ted Knauber, Justin Knauber and Damon Hudson (Chelsea); and his great grandchildren Carter, Noah and Charlee Grindstaff, Klayton Knauber and Georgia Hudson.
Ed's family is thankful to the caregivers, cook Mannie and Shellie Curley of Beehive Volcano Cliffs as well as Legacy Hospice and nurse Vanessa for their care and kindness towards Dad.
There are no formal services planned. A Celebration of Life has already taken place when Ed recently celebrated his 100th birthday. A very large gathering of friends, family and relatives that knew and loved him throughout his life were in attendance, a day Ed talked about for weeks to come.
Dad, you did really good for an "old boy". You will be greatly missed. 'Hasta La Vista'
