Jean Ann Hollingsworth born February 28, 1933, died October 07, 2025.
Jean (Holly) Hodgin is survived by her husband of 68 years, Ulton (Bud) Hodgin, her children, Lisa (Hodgin) Cvecko (Jerry), Susan (Hodgin) Rogers (Jim), and Charles Hodgin; and her brother, Charles Hollingsworth, DrPH. In addition, she is survived by her grandchildren, Mitchell Cvecko (Jennifer), Kelsey Mendonca, Emily Rogers Miles (Larry), Marianne Rogers Wassermann (Michael), Ryan Rogers and Ella Hodgin; and her great-grandchildren, Maci Mendonca, Cole Mendonca and Brooks Wassermann. She was preceded in death by her son, David Hodgin; both her parents, Helen and John Hollingsworth, MD; and her brother, John Hollingsworth.
Holly was born in Cleveland, Ohio but soon moved to North East, Pennsylvania where she lived the first years of her life as the adored only child in a hotel her grandmother owned on Lake Erie. She and her mother moved to Girard, PA when she was seven years old and her mother remarried. She graduated high school in Girard, PA. Subsequently, she graduated from Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing in Pittsburgh, PA. This is where she met her husband, Bud. They moved to New Mexico in 1965. Holly embraced the Southwest with her whole heart. She loved Southwest Art, Native American dances and of course, the food.
Holly worked as a nurse both in Pittsburgh and also in Albuquerque, where she worked in research for both the GI and Psychiatric departments at the University of New Mexico. She was passionate about the nonprofit organizations she worked with which included the Bernalillo County Medical Auxiliary, All Faiths Receiving Home, Presbyterian Church (where she was both an elder and a deacon), Healthcare for the Homeless, Transitional Living Services, where she was the Executive Director, and the Rio Grande Nature Center. She was never afraid to take a leadership position with the groups she gifted with her time.
Holly's love of travel, nature and nursing coalesced in retirement when she and her husband worked and traveled with Lindblad Expeditions. Her husband was the ship's doctor; she was his assistant. They traveled everywhere from Africa to Antarctica and beyond.
Holly was known for her quick wit and love of laughter, birding, classical music, Irish and Border terriers, cooking and entertaining, books and book club and playing bridge. She will be remembered as a forever friend, kindhearted wife, grandmother, sister and daughter, and always, always a fiercely loyal and loving mother.
A Service of Witness to the Resurrection and Thanksgiving for the life of Jean Hodgin will be held Sunday, January 4th, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 215 Locust St. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87102.
