Robert M. Goodman, 75, passed away peacefully as a result of brain cancer on Tuesday, November 5, 2019 with his loving wife by his side. Bob was born July 16, 1944 in Enid, Oklahoma, raised in Denver, moving in 1956 to Albuquerque. He attended Lew Wallace Elementary, Washington Jr. High and graduating from Valley High School in 1962. Bob earned his Bachelor's ('66) and Master's ('72) degrees in Business Administration from the University of New Mexico. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon and voted Fiesta King his junior year. He later served four years on UNM's Anderson School of Management Foundation board and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2000.

After college, Bob began his banking career at First National Bank as a management trainee rising from Assistant Cashier to Assistant Manager of the East Central Branch, becoming their youngest officer at age 22. At UNM in the MBA program Bob was a student intern at PNM and the Graduate Assistant in the MBA Executive Program. After graduate school, Bob continued his career at Citizens Bank becoming Vice President of Administration in 1976. After Citizens, Bob started his own financial consulting business, R.M. Goodman and Associates. A major project was development of the Teacher Retirement Center known as La Resolana Apartments. Bob's career continued as General Manager of Wellborn Paint Company then at Rio Grande Valley Bank as Vice President of Commercial Lending and Executive Vice President. Bob was hired by Sunwest Bank in 1984 becoming Executive Vice President, Chief Credit Officer and ultimately President in 1995. When Sunwest merged with Nationsbank, Bob joined First Place Financial of Farmington and opened Capital Bank as CEO in Albuquerque as a community bank with its own charter. When Capital Bank became part of Wells Fargo, Bob left to become Vice Chairman and Director at Bank of Albuquerque responsible for the wealth management area including Private Financial Services. Bob retired from the Bank of Albuquerque thinking he was truly retiring but instead was approached by the Board of Directors of the Sandia Foundation, a not-for-profit corporation. Sandia benefits UNM, Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania and charitable organizations in Albuquerque. Bob served as President and CEO for 8 years retiring for the last time in August, 2016.

Bob believed in generously sharing his time and talents for the betterment of the community. Bob's volunteer career began as President of the Robert O. Anderson School of Business Alumni Club raising funds for the school. Bob served on the boards of Chaparral Adoption Agency, Share Your Care Elderly Care Center, Presbyterian Heart Institute, Middle Rio Grande Business and Education Consortium and the New Mexico Museum of Natural History Foundation. Bob served as Chair of the Sandia Prep School Board. Governor Bruce King appointed Bob as Chairman of the newly created NM Finance Authority, reappointed by Governor Gary Johnson serving 10 years as Chairman. In addition, Bob served 4 terms on the Albuquerque Community Foundation as Investment Chair on the Executive Committee. He served on the UNM Foundation for 9 years, Vice Chair of the Investment Committee and the last three as Chair of the Foundation. Bob was elected to the Albuquerque Country Club board serving as Chair for two years. During this time, the club underwent a multimillion dollar remodel. Bob worked with Charter Bank to obtain a loan for the club for the majority cost of the project.

He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Marti; son, Mark Goodman; grandsons, Owen and Ben of Bend, OR; sister, Martha Stockham of Salt Lake City; nephews, Thomas Stockham (Kristin), John Stockham (Christine), and David Stockham (Rachael) of Salt Lake City; niece, Carol Stockham of Moab, UT; and many grand-nieces and nephews. Bob is predeceased by his daughter, Meredith.

Bob loved the outdoors and he and Marti early in their marriage enjoyed camping and tenting with Mark and Meredith. In the mid-eighties, they found a small log cabin in Taos which began their love of the Taos area. In 2007, they built a traditional northern New Mexico home to which they invited friends to share golf and friendship. Over the years, activities included skiing for Marti, Mark and Meredith (but not Bob) hiking, fishing, snowshoeing, geocaching, golfing and many overseas travel vacations. Bob was a thoughtful loving husband, Dad and Grandad, a person of integrity on whom you could rely, practical, a problem solver, insightful, a visionary, mentor to many, well prepared for any occasion whether a hiking excursion or a business deal. His bow ties and cheerful whistling are gone. His grandsons miss his affectionate, gentle teasing. He was a true friend with a great sense of humor, who had a quick story to enhance a conversation. He is missed by his family and friends. Bob was a "good man" who lived up to his name.

Services will be held Saturday, November 23, 2019, 10:00 a.m., at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 12500 Carmel Avenue NE, Albuquerque, 87122.
