Hilda Guidroz Edwards

Funeral Services for Hilda Guidroz Edwards, 87, will be held at 4:00 pm on Sunday, September 6, 2015 at St. Jules Catholic Church. Her son, Reverend Daniel Edwards will be the Celebrant. Reverend Robie Robichaux, JCL, will be Concelebrant and Homolist. Interment will be in Bellevue Cemetery in Opelousas, Louisiana. Hilda Guidroz Edwards was our sweet and precious mother. She was the BEST of moms and the greatest GIFT to all of us. She was always there for us. She was a woman of tremendous faith in Jesus and love for all. She always told us: "Never give up on your children," and "Never let Satan win." She was always joyful, always praying, and always giving thanks to the Lord and serving those in need. She and dad, John D. Edwards, were married for 50 years before his death in 1996. They instilled in us the true meaning of life, i.e., love and total surrender to Jesus our Lord in the gift of our family. After dad's death, mom carried on with him in her heart being not just mom to her six children, but grandmother and great-grandmother to our blessed family. Everyone who knew mom knows this is the truth. Simply put, mom was love. So, let us celebrate her life by following the Lord the way she did until the Lord came and took her to himself. We love you mom! Mom is survived by five of her six children: Rex Edwards and his wife Julie Phillipi Edwards of Lafayette; Tom Edwards and his wife Margret LaHaye Edwards of Opelousas; Jane Edwards Joy and her husband Joseph "Buzzy" Joy of Lafayette; Brenda Edwards Murphy and her husband Michael Murphy of Lafayette; and the Rev. Dan Edwards, pastor of St. Jules. Catholic Church; and, Frances Edwards, her deceased son Bob's widow. She is survived by her 17 grandchildren: Charles Edwards, Emily Edwards Whelan, Mark Edwards, Chad Edwards, Heidi Edwards Roma; Scott Edwards; Jason Joy, Jamie Joy Arton, Jonathan "Jon" Joy, Jennifer Joy Coussan, Lynette Edwards Lee, Jeannine Edwards, Jillian "Gigi" Edwards Coburn, Brian Murphy, Steven Murphy, Christopher Murphy, B.J. Murphy, and, 22 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John D. Edwards; their son Bob Edwards; her parents, Richard and Hilda Guidroz; her brother-in-law, the Rev. Roy D. Edwards, and her three brothers, Richard Guidroz, Lloyd Guidroz, and Gerald Guidroz. The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 5, 2015 from 5:30 pm until 7:00 pm. A Rosary will be recited Saturday evening at 6:00 pm in the funeral home. Visiting hours will resume on Sunday, September 6, 2015 from 3:00 pm until time of service at St. Jules Catholic Church, 116 St. Jules Street, Lafayette, LA 70506. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Casa-Charlene or Carmelite Monastery, 1250 Carmel Drive, Lafayette, LA 70501.
