Maria Dolores Holganza

Maria Dolores (Dolly) C. Holganza, age 53, passed away on February 3rd, 2013. Dolly's cause of death was cancer. She died amongst family and friends. Dolly was born on September 17, 1959 in Cebu City, Philippines. She became a resident of Alaska in 1988 and lived in Juneau, AK from 1988-1991. She moved to Anchorage in 1991. Dolly worked as a teacher from 1980-1988 in Cebu City's Sacred Heart School for Girls. She obtained a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education with a major in Home Economics. Dolly became employed with the State of Alaska from 1989-2013 with the Department of Environmental Conservation.

The visitation will take place at Janssen's Evergreen Memorial Chapel on February 15, 2013 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The service will be on February 16, 2013 at Saint Anthony's Church at 2:00 p.m. The Officiant will be Father Vince Blanco. Pallbearers will be Benjo Holganza, Jeremy Holganza, Roy Vergil Tagsip, John Jay Apepe, Genaro Cabanete, Vic Cabanete, and Steven Cerna. The burial will take place at Anchorage Memorial Park Cemetery.

She was affiliated with the Bisayan Filipinos of AK, Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish, and St. Benedict Church. Dolly was a volunteer of 15 years for the Mayor's Midnight Sun Marathon. Her hobbies and interest included cooking, movies, TV Soap operas, concerts, camping, and traveling. She adored babies, children, and loved laughing with family and friends.

Her survivors consisted of her husband, Jesse and children, Benjo, Jeremy, and Jennifer; sister Rahdie Apepe wife of Johnathan Apepe and mother to John Nathan, John Jesus, and Ave Maria; sister Priscilla Abellana wife of Arturo Abellana and mother to Jay, Jaydee, and Josephine; sister Lourdes Mana wife to Antonio Mana and mother to Vladimir, Anna Lou, and Joanna; sister Aida Babao and mother to Gerb, Elagio, and Jen Jen; an adopted sister Alice Demate; brother Victorio Cabanete husband to Nary and father to Teofisto, Viah Perfecta, Venah, and Vidah; brother Genaro Cabanete and father to Jude; nephews Melvin Sy Piecco and Karl Boltz.

She was preceded in death by her father, Teopisto Cabanete; mother, Perfecta Mancao Cabanete; sisters, Floriana Boltz, and Marina Sy Piecco.

Dolly was a positive influence on everybody she met by her sheer personality. One of her most endearing qualities was her loyalty to her friends, family, and the ability to be a friend to everyone. Dolly's laughter was one of a kind. She was the light of the world to her family. Our only comfort now is the knowledge that she is in a better place, painless and closer to God. It's now up to us, the living, to do her proud by continuing to live in her example. Her beautiful face, smile, and her infectious laughter will be missed greatly.
