Marie Bodewitz Obituary

Marie "Alison" (Wylie) Bodewitz, beloved wife and mother, passed away on Jan. 24, 2015, at the age of 88. She was preceded in death by her father, William A. Wylie; and her mother, Margaret Stella (Conway) Wylie. Surviving are her husband, Benjamin; her sons, Hari Dev, Michael Alan and Nathan Christopher; and her daughters, Maureen Estelle and Martina Marie; also 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. In Newfoundland, she is survived by three cousins, Ian, Barbara and Raymond. Alison was born in St. John's, Newfoundland, where she enjoyed her childhood with her extended family. At school she was an excellent student, once receiving the top score in higher mathematics in what were called the Maritime schools. Later, she was desired as a clerical worker, her excellent work resulting in her being assigned to the Judge Advocate Office at Pepperell Air Force Base in Newfoundland. At Pepperell, she met her husband, Benjamin Bodewitz. All through life she was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hiking, skiing, skating and fishing, which led her to say, "I am never again leaving Alaska." She was much appreciated by the Girl Scouts and the Boy Scouts for her work with them. At Alison's request, there will be no funeral. Instead she asked that there be a celebration of life for the family. This will be held at a later date.

My aunt Allison took me fishing in a roaring in waiters & a rope tied around me, I never did get that salmon! But was incredible. I know more about in passing, than when I was 10.

I remember Marie as Margie and Estelle's grandmother and Maureen's mother. I enjoyed spending countless hours on the hard bleachers visiting with her during soccer and basketball games when my children and her grandchildren were in school together. I feel lucky to have had that chance to know her. I am thinking of all of you during this difficult time.

My thoughts and prayers are with you. I was saddened Sunday to hear of Alison's passing. I have fond memories of and will miss the fellowship times I was able to share with her after Sunday morning services.

I will very much miss my grandmother. She was someone who could help you with anything whether it was your knitting project or tying a hook on your fishing pole. Her kitchen always smelled like fresh bread. She was the most creative person I have ever known. I am just thankful for all that she has taught me.

May the God of all comfort strengthen the entire family during this time of sorrow. Those who die God keeps in his memory because they are precious in his eyes. (Psalms 116:15). My sincerest sympathy.
