Monnie Holbrook Obituary

Monnie Claude Holbrook was born on May 11, 1958, in North East, Md. During his time in the U.S. Military, he was stationed in Anchorage, Alaska, fell blissfully in love with the great state and called it home for the remainder of his fascinating life. Monnie was an avid outdoorsman, spending weeks at a time in various towns exploring new domain, Monnie loved a good adventure. As a born country boy, he was made for a life outside the small town limits. Monnie never took a minute of life for granted, you could count on him for a helping hand, well thought advice or a beautiful prayer. Feisty and passionate, quick witted and always three steps ahead of life, Monnie had a powerful dynamic presence. He was a Craftsman, gun enthusiast, hunter, fisher, contractor, mechanic, musician, father, brother, fiance, son, friend and most importantly he loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Monnie took advantage of every moment he had on earth. Bluegrass and Gospel music were personal favorites of his, the feel of the good ol' boys, the memories of sitting on the old family farm in North East, Md., bluegrass and gospel music struck a special chord in Monnie's heart. Monnie will be remembered by his vast knowledge for the teachings of Jesus Christ and photographic memory for biblical passages and stories. He prayed as a first language. Monnie was a Warrior of the Cross. Monnie was a father of six children; he was beyond proud to see the people they have grown to be and excited to watch his family grow into families of their own. A man of family and a man of God, Monnie will be missed, and his love and prayers will live on in the lives of those he left behind. Monnie is survived by his fiance, Susan Teel; sister, Judy L. Etemadi; brothers, Marty Holbrook and Ricky Holbrook; sons, Nicholas C. Holbrook, Shane J. Holbrook, Jared B. Holbrook and Corey A. Holbrook; daughters, Ashley M. Van Us and Monica J. Holbrook; and grandchildren, Nicholas C. Holbrook Jr. and Ava Grace Holbrook. Monnie was preceded in death by his mother, Gladys J. Dunsmore Holbrook; father, Johnny Claude Holbrook Jr; brother, Johnny Carl Holbrook; and his sister, Karen D. Holbrook. Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 7, 2014, at Abbott Loop Community Church, located at 2626 Abbott, and a viewing will begin at 1 p.m. Monnie will be buried at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 8, 2014, at Fort Richardson National Cemetery.

I first met Monnie when he was stationed in Alaska with the military. He was such a nice, sincere, impressive, good-looking gentleman. He made a great impression on this earth, and left the world a much better place, and now Heaven is even a better place, because of God's newest angel, Monnie. My deepest sympathies to Monnie's family. He will never be forgotten.

Monnie Holbrook's prayer in the last phone message left for me, Nov. 2, 2014:

"We just give thanks for You Lord, that you give the instruction not to set our eyes on the earthen thing but the eternal things, Lord, the unseen things, Lord, that unfeigned faith Lord that only You can give us; that assurance Lord that we were bought and sealed, Lord. Lord, we have that new measure today Lord, 'cause we're closer—we have a new day with You Lord, a new measure of faith..."

Thank you Monnie for all your prayers, for walking with Jesus and having the hope to see God's restorative power touch the hearts of those around you.
