Sean Dieffenderfer Obituary

Sean Robert Dieffenderfer was born on Sept. 5, 1991, and left this world on Sunday, Nov. 19, 2017, at the age of 26.
Funeral services will be held at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 501 East Bogard Road in Wasilla, Alaska, on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2018, at 5 p.m.
His family is devastated by his death and they will miss him every single day.
He had family members in many places and scores of friends, and he touched a lot of lives and brought happiness to many people. In that they take comfort.
Sean was an Eagle Scout, earning scouting's highest rank in 2007. For his Eagle Scout project he repaired and refinished all of the outdoor benches at Colony High School. He was also an active outdoorsman, and he jet-skied in Alaska, Hawaii and Mexico; snow-machined in Petersville, Alaska; and downhill skied and snowboarded Hatcher's Pass and Alyeska. He loved to canoe, and he twice canoed 300 miles of the Yukon River and traveled through 50 miles of the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge on multiple occasions. At Philmont Scout Ranch he climbed Baldy Mountain, reaching the 12,441-foot summit in New Mexico. He visited the beaches of Normandy, ran up the Leaning Tower of Pisa in Italy, toured Washington D.C., Niagara Falls, Hong Kong, Paris, Rome, Florence, Pompeii and Venice. He enjoyed the attractions at Sea World, Universal Studios, Disneyworld and Epcot Center, and he rode roller coasters whenever the opportunity allowed it. He jumped off the cliffs of Lake LaBarge in the Yukon, and hiked the Chilkoot Trail right through the heart of the Klondike. He hunted caribou near King Salmon, Alaska, and backpacked Katmai National Park, where he summited Mount Novarupta. In high school he was a gymnast, a competitive diver, and he was also on his school's competitive cheer team.
He graduated from Eagle River High in 2010, and did some college work at University of Alaska Anchorage before transferring into Northern Industrial Training's Professional Driver's Program. He loved to drive anything that had a motor, from fast boats to fast cars, and he especially loved to race four-wheelers through the deserts of the Baja in Mexico. He scuba dived and/or snorkeled in Oahu, Maui, and Cabo San Lucas, and he was catching big fish at the age of 7. But it was the love of driving that moved him to work as a professional CDL driver, where he worked for various companies. He once hauled cows in Florida, carried fuel for Inlet Petroleum Company, delivered food for Food Services of America and carried supplies for Pacific Alaska Freightways and America Fast Freight. In his final employment, he was delivering pallets of material for Alaska Mill and Feed.
In his honor, his parents ask that you please treat everyday as a precious opportunity to enjoy being alive. As he liked to put it: "Seize the Day!"

The first time I met Robert he was trying out for competitive cheerleading, I believe that was winter of our freshman year. It was amazing watching him tumble across that mat; he made it look effortless, like pouring a glass of water. There was one time where I got hurt from doing a stunt and was afraid of doing it again so instead Robert was the one they made the flyer, and it was put in as part of our competitive routine (I believe for state), you should have heard the crowd go wild! Robert was fearless and was always up for a good challenge. He always knew how to make me smile and laugh. He was there when things were hard, and helped me through some of the toughest times of my life. It was truly devistating finding out he is no longer with us. My heart breaks for not only him, but for his family as well.

Sean was a good guy. I remember meeting him in our econ class senior year and developed a friendship with him there. I'm truly sorry for your loss, but proud of the man he turned out to be.
