Clara (Ortega) Jauregui

1927 - 2015

Clara Jauregui , 87, passed away on April 27 in Alamogordo.

She was born on August 3, 1927 in La Luna to Nicholas and Manuelita (Ortega) Apodaca.

Clara was married to Henry Jauregui in Carrizozo. They worked hand-in-hand in the restaurant business for over 30 years as both owners and operators. Restaurants included Henry's Place and the Bus Stop Cafe. The couple retired in Roswell with their son Christobal and his family. The couple enjoyed each other's company until Henry's death in 2008.

Many people came to know Clara as a kind and gentle soul who showed compassion to others and readily gave of herself. Her kindness made others feel as if they were one of her own. Clara was dedicated to her family and helped raise three generations of children. Her sense of humor won her many friends. A witty reply was never far from her tongue.

Survivors include her grandson Abel Jauregui of Roswell; great-grandchildren Roman Jauregui, Ariana Jauregui and Carlos Jauregui of Roswell; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Henry Jauregui, her son Christobal Jauregui and her parents Nicholas and Manuelita Apodaca.

The family will greet friends from 9 to 9:30 a.m. on Friday, May 1, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. The Rosary for Clara Jauregui will be recited at 9:30 a.m. followed by the celebration of the Mass of the Resurrection at 10 a.m. with Father Mike Lindsay as celebrant.
Cremation will follow at PCS. Inurnment will take place in Roswell at a later date.
