Samuel Brusuelas Obituary
Brusuelas was born Dec. 26, 1919, in Bent and was a lifelong resident of Otero County.
He was the son of Jose and Venancia (Davalos) Brusuelas. He was a World War II Army veteran, having served in the 10th Mountain Division in Italy and was awarded the Bronze Star for Valor. He married Genoveva (Geno) Martinez on Nov. 24, 1940. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7686 and the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie No. 4101. He enjoyed camping and hunting. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Genoveva Brusuelas; three sons, Sammy, Bobby and Carlos; a grandson, Robert Brusuelas; his parents; his brothers, James, Fidel, Pete and Nick and his sister, Carmen Sanchez.
Survivors include his daughter, Lina B. Duran and husband, Charlie, of Alamogordo; grandchildren, Danielle B. Alpers and husband, Douglas, Bobby J. Duran and wife, Cori, Bobby Duran, Jr., Sammy Ray Brusuelas and Teresa Coburn and husband, Jeff, all of Alamogordo; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ramon Brusuelas and wife, Frances, of Tularosa, Paul Brusuelas and wife, Carmen, of Alamogordo; a sister, Dolores Sainz and husband, Tony, of Tularosa; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The Rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 12, 2009, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church by Linda Villabisencio. Funeral Mass will follow at 10 a.m. in the church with Father Bryant Hausfeld, O.F.M., celebrant.
Interment will follow in Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery.
There will be a family visitation from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 11, 2009.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Coburn, Doug Alpers, Larry Brusuelas, Sr., Gilbert Sainz, Paul Joseph Brusuelas and Andy Sainz.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Bobby J. Duran, Paul Brusuelas, Jaime Anderson, Larry Brusuelas, Jr., Gus Najera and Isidro Davalos.

Mr. Brusuelas,
Sir, I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for our Country when you served with the U.S. Army in Italy fighting the Germans during WW II as a member of the 10th Mountain Division-one of the toughest and best trained units in the entire Army and always got the toughest assignments. And to your family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.

I am very sad to hear the the news of Sam's pasing. He was always very welcoming to me when I stoped buy weather it was at his gas station on the way into town or at his house many years later.He always feed me and offered me a beer{which I never refused} Because this always lead to some good stories we shared with one another.I also enjoyed the fact that he enjoyed the sport of rodeo as much as I did.I'm sure he is reciving a nice warm welcome from all of our realitives that have gone on before us. My dad will give him that big bearhug he used to do I remember when I was a little boy. good bye Sam!
