Derrell Friar Obituary
Born in Cook County, GA to the late J.D. and Louise Friar, Sr., Mr. Friar retired from Miller Brewing Company where he worked as an electrician. While he was employed there, he was employee of the year in 1986 and was one of the first workers there to help start the plant. Derrell loved serving people and later went on to work at ACE Hardware, a job he thoroughly enjoyed. He was a leader for many years with the Royal Rangers program at Victory Tabernacle. He loved working with the young people and passing his knowledge along to them. Mr. Friar was a loving family man and was proud of them. He currently attended Grace City church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother J.D. Friar, Jr. and two sisters, Ophelia Friar and Shirley Griffin.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda Friar, his children, Chad Friar (Wendy), Rev. Mitch Friar (Lori) and Jill Creech (Chad), his grandchildren, Justin Friar (Alexis), Ashton Friar, Sydney Friar, Andy Friar (Hannah), Jonathan Friar, Timothy Friar, Will Friar, Caleb Friar, Chad Creech, Jr., Jackson Creech and Jennings Creech, three great grandchildren, Jayce Friar, Josiah Friar and Cora Friar and two sisters, Lavone Webb (Elton) and Betty Gunter.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, June 25, 2024 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Mathews Funeral Home.
The family will be at the residence of Chad Friar, 150 Fowler Drive, Leesburg, GA 31763.
Those desiring may make donations in memory of Derrell Friar to the local Alzheimer's Outreach, 229 N. Jackson Street, Albany, GA 31701 or to Grace City Church, 294 Oakland Parkway, Leesburg, GA 31763.
The family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Lee County Health and Rehabilitation, Affinis Hospice and his sitter Vonn Robinson for the love and care you all have gave to Mr. Friar.
