Ken and I served together as Michigan State Police chaplains. We had many interactions over the years. One, in particular stands out that, in my opinion, defines Ken. A trooper in my district experienced a tragic loss in the family. Ken called the post to alert me to the situation. Upon calling the post Ken encountered a sergeant that seemed ambivalent to the pain the trooper was dealing with. When Ken reached me he expressed his astonishment at the sergeant's callousness. "How can someone be so cold?!", he said. It struck me that Ken's compassion for people was so pronounced that it pained him when others were not compassionate. What a privilege to have known him!

Mr Rochell, you taught me karate at Agape Christian Academy roughly 1991, I was in the 3rd grade. I'd never been involved in martial arts, and you were my first instructor. In 5th grade, my parents had divorced, and you went to teaching on the weekends where our lunchroom was. You always knew how to push your students, care for them and listen when they needed an ear other than their parents. I just learned of your passing tonight from one of your fellow troopers. My heart aches for your family. You were a one of a kind. I'll never forget you, sir. May you Rest in Eternal Peace.

Sending prayers to the family blood and blue of Ken Rochell - Ken touched lives and inspired so many people. He also worked tirelessly on the State of Michigan Law Enforcement Officers Memorial near the Hall of Justice in Lansing to ensure fallen officers would remembered. Godspeed Ken. You left this world and people better for being here. You will be missed.

I had the privilege of working with Ken on midnights early in our careers. We´ve kept in touch over the years, and he´d share the love he had for his family as well a his dedication to helping prepare young adults for a career with the MSP. He was so very proud of both! I always felt Ken was just a little closer to God than most, and he managed to share these gifts with others through his actions. One example is the story behind this picture. It was taken at the request of a family who lost their young daughter in a horric traffic accident. They were making a scrapbook and requested to include our photos. The night of the accident, we held hands with the parents and prayed over their daughter. Ken is a good example to us all and will truly be missed. My prayers go out to his family.
