ELIZABETH "BETTY" WILLIAMS, 82
Teacher

FROSTPROOF - Elizabeth (Betty) Williams, 82, of Frostproof passed away Sunday, February 08, 2009 at The Groves Center in Lake Wales due to complications from Alzheimer's.
Betty was born September 19, 1926 in Jefferson County, FL to the late Dale Devere & Katy Morris. She graduated from Madison High School and Florida Southern College in Lakeland where she earned her teaching certificate. At Florida Southern College she was a charter member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority. She began her teaching career at Frostproof Elementary School as a secondary teacher and continued there for over 30 years. Betty was an active member of the 1st United Methodist Church in Frostproof where she sang in the choir and was involved in the Circle Mary. She enjoyed spending time with her family, playing in her bridge club, being a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, traveling and shopping.
In 1981, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Frostproof native, Newton Riley William Jr. Survivors include her sons, Newton Riley Williams III and wife, Kathy Vogel Williams of Frostproof and Devere Morris Williams of Clayton, GA; grandchildren: Carrie Williams Blackburn of Lake Wales, Lynn Williams Pinter of Maggie Valley, NC and Joseph Williams of Frostproof; and 2 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 PM, Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at the Marion Nelson Funeral Home in Frostproof. Graveside services will be held 10:30 AM, Wednesday, February 11, 2009 at the Mt. Zion Cemetery with Rev. Brian Smith officiating. Following the service, the family will be receiving friends and relatives at the First United Methodist Church in Frostproof. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the First United Methodist Church of Frostproof, FSC Scholarship Fund, a fund that Betty established years ago for aspiring college students.
