James Brendan Vesey

AGE: 74 • Holiday City Berkeley

James Brendan Vesey, age 74 of Holiday City section of Berkeley Twp., died Tuesday in Orlando, Florida. He was born to the late Tom and Molly Vesey, in Co. Mayo, Ireland. Brendan immigrated to Newark, NJ in 1959. He married Bridie Sheridan in 1966, had 2 children, and they lived in Irvington and Union, NJ. Upon both of them retiring 15 years ago, they moved to Holiday City. As snow birds, they would spend the winter months in Ft. Pierce, Florida. He served his time with the New Jersey National Guard for 7 years. He later went on to work for NJ Transit for 35 years and was the Vice President of Local 819 Amalgamated Transit Credit Union in NJ.

Brendan was a member of many organizations such as, the John F. Cryan Association, Giblin Association, and Knights of Columbus. He chaired the Irish festival in the PNC Center in Holmdel, NJ, he was the Grand Marshal of the Newark St. Patrick's Day Parade in 1986, he was one of the founders of the Union St. Patrick's Day Parade and he was a founder of the Irish American Club in Toms River.

One of most cherished organizations was his love for Irish music through Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann.

Brendan is survived by his wife Bridie Vesey; his daughter Geraldine Riley and her husband Mike and son Brendan Vesey. Brendan is also survived by his beloved six grandchildren: Caiti, Brendan, & Jack Riley, Jenna, Megan and Declan Vesey. He is also survived by his brothers Thomas Vesey and Sean Vesey of Clifton, NJ; and his uncle, Mike Fay from Berkeley Twp., and Katherine Gallagher from Lancaster England, his many in-laws, nieces and nephews. No one was a stranger to Brendan, everyone was a friend. He will be dearly missed.

The family will receive relatives and friends Sunday, December 29th, 2013 from 3:00 to 8:00pm at the Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals, 145 St. Catherine Blvd. Toms River, NJ. A Funeral Mass will be offered Monday, December 30th, 2013, 10:30am at St. Maximilian Kolbe RC Church, Berkeley Twp.

The Entombment will follow at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, Christ the King Mausoleum, Berkeley Twp. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.ryanfuneralhome.com

We are all saddened at the passing of our dear cousin. I remember well Brendan sitting in my moms living room when he first landed state side as well as all the meals shared at "Nana Bea's". Brendan was well loved and will be missed...we love you and extend out deepest condolences
